History
Mjällom is located on a peninsula in the Bay of Bothnia, surrounded by a nature that provides opportunities for a rich outdoor life.
Mjällom has been an industrial society for more than 100 years. The development of traditional agriculture - forestry and fisheries began in the late 19th century. Måvikens Sawmill was founded in the same era. The large industrial operations in Mjällom, the manufacture of shoes, began in 1919 and lasted until 1999. This business employed of up to 500 people in several factories. These factories created subcontractors who could manufacture and provide cartons and punches.

In 1952, Yngve Gerdin and his uncle Manfred started a hardware and bicycle business in Mjällom. In 1955 started manufacturing of cutting dies and other supplies to the local shoe industry. A business which grew by customers throughout Sweden.
Gerdins die cutting products were further developed with perforation tubes. The perforation tubes was initially purchased from German factories. Soon Gerdins invested in automatic lathes and started up their own production. This business is now in the business area Cutting Technology.

In order to create development and jobs in Mjällom, in connection with the shoe industry closure in 1985, Gerdins started the manufacturing of cable harnesses to support the Saab-Scania unit in Kramfors. Solveyh Gerdin was a driving force in this development. This activity has gradually developed and operates today under our business area Cable Systems.
In the late 80's, Gerdins invested in new CNC technology for turning of perforation tubes and laser machines for the manufacturing of cutting tools. To utilize machine capacity and investments, Gerdins started subcontracting within these areas. This is the foundation of today's business area Components.
In just over 60 years, Gerdins Group has evolved from a small local machine shop to a high-tech industrial group with over 430 employees. A consistent theme in the story is the dedication, determination and courage to evolve and meet customer needs for products and services of the highest quality. Gerdins Group has since 1952 been family owned.
